Sursulf

Sursulf

CLIN family products such as SURSULF® and TUFFTRIDE® are low toxicity salt bath nitriding processes. The aim of CLIN treatments, via a heterogeneous surface reaction, is to diffuse nitrogen and carbon atoms from the molten salt into the solid metal alloy. This process forms two distinct layers at the surface of treated components:

  • A layer of iron nitrides (primarily Ɛ-Epsilon type) and nitrides of alloying elements called the “compound layer”, which also demonstrates a degree of surface porosity.
  • A diffusion zone below the compound layer, in which the concentration of nitrides gradually reduces.

The nitrided surface offers benefits such as improved wear, anti-fatigue and anti-seizure properties as well as significantly improved corrosion resistance. For more detailed information on salt bath nitriding, please visit the HEF group page.

Treatment Parameters

Treating ferrous materials (steel, cast iron, stainless steel and Inconel alloys) at temperatures typically between 540°C and 580°C and treatment times between 30 and 210 minutes.

Capabilities

TSUK is home to the largest nitrocarburising baths in the UK, we can to treat parts up to 1 metre in diameter and 3.2 metres in length.
