SURSULF

A low toxicity sulphur activated salt bath nitriding process.  The exceptional nitriding power of the bath allows SURSULF to effectively resolves problems associated with WEAR, FATIGUE, SEIZURE and CORROSION in a wide range of materials from cast irons to high grade steels and even Inconel alloys.

Treatment Parameters:
The SURSULF bath temperature is between 540 and 570°C (1000 and 1060° F) and treatment time varies between 30 and 210 minutes.

Remark:
Our equipment is suitable for treatment of parts to diameter 1m and maximum length of 3.2m.

Precautions:
We recommend a 3 hour thermal stress relieving cycle at 590°C (1094° F) minimum before final machining.

ARCOR

A treatment which combines salt bath nitriding with a controlled oxidation/passivation sequence and finish treatment to impart all the benefits of a nitrided surface, ie. improved wear, fatigue and anti-seizure properties, with significantly improved corrossion resistance.  The process imparts an aesthetically pleasing black surface finish which can be further enhanced using the PC (QPQ) process derivatives. 

Treatment Parameters:
ARCOR treatment is at a temperature between 540 and 570°C (1000 and 1060° F) and treatment time varies between 30 and 210 minutes.

Remarks:
Unlike electrolytic coatings, there is no hydrogen embrittlement with ARCOR.
Our equipment is suitable for treatment of parts to diameter 1m and maximum length 3.2m

Precautions:
We recommend a 3 hour thermal stress relieving cycle at 590°C (1094° F) at least before final machining.  Do not clean treated parts with solvents after treatment - this can compromise the imparted corrosion resistance properties.

TS Carbides

A thermochemical diffusion treatment providing very hard carbide layers of exceptional hardness and durability to a wide range of tool steels.  Ideally suited to metal forming and cutting applications, the process can produce very significant increases in tool life.  Treated tools, when worn or modified can be re-treated to re-establish the Carbide layer.

Characteristics:

  • Extreme resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear.
  • Exceptionally hard layer (~3,500+ Hv possible depending on alloy and condition).
  • Diffusion layer perfectly blended with metal substrate with no risk of delamination.
  • Treatment possible for parts with complex shapes.

Materials Suitable for Treatment:

  • Tool steels.
  • High-speed steels.

Remarks:

Sulf BT

Molten salt bath electrolytic conversion of the surface of the base material to create an iron sulphide layer to improve resistance to seizure and to strengthen adherence of lubricating films. The layer has excellent self-lubricating properties.

Please note that whilst regretfully this process is no longer operated at our Birmingham site, we are able to arrange for the treatment of parts through our European sister subsidiaries.

Treatment Parameters:
SULF BT treatment is at a temperature of 190 ± 5°C (374 ± 40°F). Treatment is possible on heat-treated steels with low tempering temperature, especially case hardened steels.

Precautions:
SULF BT is not suitable for steels with a chromium content greater than 12% application.
